Buttock augmentation

Buttock lipofilling and buttock implants
A buttock augmentation is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to enhance the volume and shape of the buttocks in order to create a more balanced silhouette. During the consultation, my role is to assess your body type, your expectations, and the technical options available so that I can recommend the most suitable solution for you. The goal is to achieve a natural-looking result that is in proportion with the rest of your body.

Overview

Buttock augmentation is designed to enhance the volume and contours of the buttocks.

Some people would like to correct:

  • buttocks considered too flat
  • a lack of foresight
  • a lack of volume
  • a somewhat unbalanced figure

There are two main techniques that can be used:

  • buttock lipofilling, which uses the patient's own fat
  • buttock implants, which increase volume through the use of implants

The choice of technique depends on the patient's body type, the amount of available fat, and the patient's goals.

Explanation of the technique

Buttock augmentation is designed to enhance the volume, projection, and harmony of the buttocks. Depending on the patient’s body type, various techniques may be recommended.

The main methods used are:

  • Buttock augmentation via fat transfer, also known as a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)
  • Buttock augmentation using buttock implants
  • Buttock augmentation using hyaluronic acid injections

The choice of technique depends on several factors:

  • morphology
  • the amount of available fat
  • the desired volume
  • the patient's expectations
  • the sustainability of the desired outcome

Each treatment option has specific indications and can be discussed during the consultation.

Buttock Augmentation via Lipofilling - Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)

Buttock lipofilling, also known as a Brazilian Butt Lift, involves increasing the volume of the buttocks using the patient's own fat.

This technique is based on a simple principle: fat is removed from certain areas of the body via liposuction, then processed and reinjected into the buttocks to enhance their volume and shape.

Lipofilling offers several simultaneous benefits:

  • buttock augmentation
  • buttock augmentation
  • body contouring
  • refinement of the treatment areas through liposuction
  • natural-feeling finish

Fat is typically harvested from areas where it is present in sufficient quantities, such as:

  • the abdomen
  • the sides
  • the thighs
  • the lower back
  • sometimes the hips or the thighs

After extraction, the fat is prepared and purified according to a specific protocol to preserve the viability of the fat cells. It is then reinjected into the buttocks in the form of micrografts, in a gradual, multi-layered manner, to achieve an even distribution and a natural contour.

Some of the injected fat may be reabsorbed in the weeks following the procedure, a factor that is taken into account when planning the procedure.

Buttock Augmentation with Implants

Buttock augmentation using buttock implants involves placing implants specifically designed for this area of the body to increase the volume and projection of the buttocks.

This technique may be appropriate in certain situations, particularly when:

  • There is not enough available fat to perform lipofilling
  • a greater increase in volume is desired
  • Body type alone does not allow for the desired result to be achieved

Buttock implants are generally placed within the muscle, most often within the gluteus maximus muscle. This placement allows for:

  • a more natural and harmonious result
  • greater implant stability
  • protection of prostheses by the surrounding tissues

Implant augmentation creates a more pronounced buttock contour, particularly in patients who are very thin or have limited fat reserves.

Buttock augmentation with hyaluronic acid injections

Buttock augmentation using hyaluronic acid injections is a cosmetic procedure that enhances the shape of the buttocks without surgery.

Hyaluronic acid is a biodegradable substance used in cosmetic medicine to restore volume. When injected into the buttocks, it helps achieve:

  • a moderate increase in volume
  • an improvement in the shape of the buttocks
  • correction of certain irregularities or asymmetries

The injections are administered at the doctor’s office using micro-cannulas, which allow the product to be delivered gradually and evenly into the tissue.

This technique has several advantages:

  • a less invasive procedure than surgery
  • no scarring
  • generally quick recovery

However, it is limited by certain factors:

  • The resulting volume remains moderate compared to surgical techniques
  • Since the product is absorbable, the effects are temporary and require follow-up sessions

The procedure is discussed during the consultation to determine whether this technique is appropriate for the patient’s needs and body type.

Overview of the procedure

The process of undergoing a buttock augmentation begins with a specialized consultation to assess your body type and determine the most appropriate technique.

During this consultation, a comprehensive clinical assessment of the body is conducted to evaluate body volume, proportions, and tissue quality. This analysis helps identify areas that can be treated and establish realistic goals for the procedure.

You will receive detailed medical information and a personalized quote, in accordance with the legal cooling-off period. Medical photographs may be taken to facilitate preoperative analysis and monitoring of results.

Before the procedure, a preoperative evaluation is ordered and a consultation with the anesthesiologist is scheduled.

Buttock augmentation is performed in a clinic under general anesthesia. Depending on the technique chosen—fat transfer or implant placement—the procedure involves either reinjecting fat harvested from certain areas of the body or inserting buttock implants to increase the volume and projection of the buttocks.

The procedure typically lasts between 1.5 and 3 hours, depending on the technique used and the associated steps. A short hospital stay may be necessary in some cases.

Postoperative Care and Expected Results

Recovery from surgery requires a gradual healing process. In the first few days following the procedure, it is common to experience:

  • edema
  • bruises
  • a feeling of tension
  • temporary fatiguetemporary fatigue

In the case of lipofilling, liposuction is also performed in certain areas, which may cause soreness or temporary tenderness.

Activities are gradually resuming :

  • light daily activities: after a few days
  • sedentary work: generally after about 2 weeks
  • Sports activities: usually after 4 to 6 weeks

Regular post-operative follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor healing and the progress of the results.

Buttock augmentation helps create a more shapely, harmonious, and well-proportioned figure. The expected benefits include:

  • buttock augmentation
  • improved projection
  • a more balanced figure
  • natural result

In the case of lipofilling, some of the injected fat may be naturally reabsorbed in the weeks following the procedure. This phenomenon is taken into account when planning the procedure.

The final results become apparent gradually over the months following the procedure, as swelling subsides and the tissues settle.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Buttock Augmentation

Lipofilling uses the patient's own fat to increase the volume of the buttocks, while buttock augmentation involves the use of implants.

In some cases, these techniques can be combined to enhance volume and contours.

Scars are generally inconspicuous and located in areas that are not easily visible.

Side effects may be uncomfortable in the first few days but are generally well managed with appropriate treatment.

The result depends on the amount of available fat and the capacity of the recipient tissues. The augmentation is generally moderate to natural-looking.

Some of the fat is reabsorbed in the first few weeks. The fat that remains then behaves like normal adipose tissue.

Temporary precautions may be recommended to limit direct pressure on the grafted areas. The guidelines are tailored to each individual situation.

Liposuction incisions are just a few millimeters long and are usually very inconspicuous once they have healed.

The best candidates are patients:

  • have sufficient body fat reserves
  • looking for a natural increase
  • with good skin elasticity
  • with realistic expectations

The consultation helps confirm the diagnosis.
